The Journey

Sreechith Vijayan Damodar is an Indian Director of Photography with over 15 years of experience creating cinematic imagery across feature films, OTT originals, web series, music videos, commercials, branded content, documentaries, and corporate films. Hailing from Kerala and based in Mumbai, he is recognised for his ability to blend emotional storytelling with refined visual craftsmanship, creating images that are both powerful and enduring.

His journey into visual storytelling began as a photojournalist, working with leading publications including The Times of India and Deccan Chronicle. Photographing real-life events and people instilled in him an instinct for observation, patience, and authenticity—qualities that continue to shape his approach to cinematography today.

His cinematic foundation was built under the mentorship of acclaimed cinematographers Madhu Neelakandan and Binendran Menon, whose guidance cultivated his understanding of light, composition, visual rhythm, and storytelling. His artistic perspective was further enriched through his interactions with legendary filmmaker Kumar Shahani, whose philosophy encouraged him to view cinema not merely as a technical discipline, but as an expressive art form capable of reflecting the complexities of human experience.

Before making his feature film debut, Sreechith established himself through a series of acclaimed original films and digital narratives, steadily developing a visual language rooted in realism and emotion. This journey culminated in Dhak Dhak, his debut Hindi feature film as Director of Photography. Produced by BLM Pictures, Outsider Films Productions, and Viacom18 Studios, the film was later released globally on Netflix, marking a defining milestone in his career.

His work continued to expand across premium streaming platforms with projects including Aspirants Season 3 and Sandeep Bhaiya on Amazon Prime Video, Medical Dreams for Girliyapa, along with a diverse slate of original films and streaming productions.

Alongside narrative filmmaking, Sreechith has built an extensive portfolio in advertising, branded storytelling, music videos, and premium corporate films. His work reflects a seamless ability to move between cinematic narratives and commercial communication while maintaining a distinctive visual identity. A defining chapter in his commercial career has been his collaboration with legendary advertising filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar, an experience that further strengthened his understanding of visual communication, performance, and cinematic precision.

Known for his calm presence on set and collaborative approach, Sreechith works closely with directors, writers, production designers, actors, and post-production teams to build a unified visual language for every project. From script discussions and visual development to lens selection, lighting design, camera movement, and the final colour grade, he remains deeply involved throughout the creative process.

For Sreechith, cinematography is more than capturing beautiful images—it is about creating emotional experiences that remain with audiences long after the final frame. His work is guided by a simple philosophy:

Every frame should serve the story. Every light should carry emotion. Every image should leave a lasting impression.

Visual Philosophy

"Every story possesses its own visual language."

For Sreechith, cinematography begins long before the camera rolls. It begins with understanding the screenplay, discovering the emotional rhythm of the narrative, and translating the director's vision into images that feel authentic and timeless.

His approach is rooted in realism, expressive lighting, purposeful camera movement, carefully crafted colour palettes, and cinematic composition. Rather than creating images that simply look beautiful, he strives to create imagery that audiences genuinely experience.

Whether working on a feature film, an OTT original, a commercial campaign, a music video, or a corporate film, his objective remains unchanged:
To create visuals that stay with audiences long after the story has ended.

From script breakdown and location recce to lens testing, lighting strategy, camera movement, and post-production, every stage is approached with meticulous attention to detail.

He believes that exceptional cinematography is built on trust, preparation, collaboration, and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence. Every decision—from the smallest lighting adjustment to the choice of lens—is made with one objective: to elevate the story.
